Smt.Veerammal
Tamil Nadu Pengal Nala Sangam was founded in 1954 by Smt.V.Veerammal born in a poor, agricultural family in the village of Tirupparayathurai. Highly talented in acting, she rose to become a famous artist in All India Radio, Trichy. The sangam was first registered as Tamil Nadu Scheduled Vakuppu Pengal Nala Sangam, to involve educated schedulded case women in social work. Later on it was named as Tamil Nadu Pengal Nala Sangam to serve the cause of socially disadvantage women and children.

In the last 50 years, the activities of the Sangam have expanded under the guidance of Smt.Veerammal whose selfless service has won the appriciation of all.

  • Appriciating her services, the women's wing of FICCI Organisation, New Delhi conferred on her title "Outstanding Woman Social Worker" and honoured her with a cash Award of Rs.11,000 in 1985.
  • In the year 1993 she was honoured by the President of India with the National Award - a cash award of Rs.30,000 in regonition of her services to the cause of poor children.
  • In the year 1993 recognizing her public service, Sri Ram Washeshran Devi Bhatia Memorial Charitable Trust from Delhi, presented her with an award of Rs.25,000.
  • The list of awards conferred on her includes "Sri Sarada Devi Mahila Seva Award". She is very ofter referred to as "Mother Theresa of South India".
  • In 1997 the Govt. of Tamil Nadu recognizing the services of the Sangam gave the "Best Institution Award" on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of India's Independence.
  • In 2001 Raja Sir Annamalai Chettiar Memorial Trust, Chennai gave "Rani Lady Meyyammai Achi Birthday Commemoration Award" in recognition of the services rendered for the upliftment of women.


Ms. Satyabhama
Another pillar of strength for the Sangam has been Ms. Satyabhama who retired from All India Radio as Station Director. She donated her entire retirement benefits. As the Project Director of the Sangam she has designed and executed successfully many useful projects for the Welfare of the disadvantaged women and children who are the target group of Sangam's Activities.

With her rich experience and spirit of selfless service, she is managing the finances of the Sangam admirably for the last 20 years. More importantly, she has been mainly responsible for raising necessary resources through donations from her friends and well wishers to make Annai Ashram Campus a clean, green and beautiful one with imposing buildings.


Ms. M. Kamakshi
The General Secretary of the Sangam Ms. M. Kamakshi has been a great support to Smt. Veerammal and has contributed immensely to the growth of the Sangam during these 50 years. She has generously donated a substantial amount to the Sangam, the amount coming from the sale of her ancestral property.

In 1991 Ms. M. Kamakshi retired from Govt. Service in the Department of Telephones and since then, has dedicated herself for promoting the service activities of the Sangam.


The contribution made by the members of the Executive Committee to the growth and expansion of the activities of the Sangam needs special mention.

The Sangam is fortunate to have Ms. K.G. Meenakshi, (Former Executive Trustee, Seethalakhsmi Ramaswami College, Trichy) as Secretary of Annai Girls's Hr.Sec.School , Ms. S. Mangalam, (Inspector of Girls' Schools, Retd) Vice President, Dr. S. Kalayani (Professor and Head of English Department, Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College) as Joint Secretary, in its Executive Committee.

The Sangam remembers, with gratitude Smt. Punniavathi Jambulingam and Smt. Sivakumari Avudaiappan (former President) for their ceaseless and dedicated work for the growth of the Sangam. They have helped to lay a solid financial foundation for the Sangam by raising substantial donation from the generous public.
